Tatting from Burda translated from German by Etha Schuette
Tatting, the textile technique for creating a unique form of openwork from a single thread and small shuttle, was born in the 19th century as a simple means for embellishing clothes and making doilies. Today tatting is experiencing a renaissance with new possibilities of purpose as supported by a new generation of textile artists and a new vocabulary of materials and color. Here, experts from Burda, the publisher of one of the finest textile craft periodicals, present a collection of filigree luxuries: a lace blouse, a festive shawl, Christmas tree trimmings from shiny gold thread and a variety of designs and edgings for white table pieces. An extensive section on technique make learning easy with each project explained by graphic representation, written instructions and color photographs.
