This booklet was the first step in a program projected to stimulate a broader interest in the samplers of the past. In 1969, the Philadelphia Museum of Art enthusiastically welcomed the offer of Pet, Inc. (of which Whitman's Chocolates was a division) to present its extraordinary "Whitman Sampler Collection." The collection had been created over a thirty-year period through the combined efforts of the executives and the staff of Whitman Chocolates. This catalog presents the sampler collection made up almost entirely of the Whitman Samplers. Forty-eight samplers are presented with their origin, colors, stitches, fabric, thread and measurements. A truly wonderful collection!
