Sell Your Books
I have been contacted by a number of customers inquiring whether we also purchase books. We do. Following are the guidelines for submitting lists of books for consideration:
Author
Title
Either the ISBN # (preferred) of, if none, please indicate whether the book is a hardcover or softcover. (Please note if the book is a hardcover and does not have the dust jacket)
Condition - Instead of listing the condition of each book, you may provide a blanket statement in your mail/email (i.e., All of the books are in very good condition except for those specifically noted.) Please note any exceptions (such as names, marking or writing or ex-library) next to the affected titles.
To give you an idea of the grading system that I use when grading books for the website, please see Book Conditions. You do not have to be that specific, but this will give you an opportunity to glance through the exceptions that should be noted. Those guidelines together with your expectations when you are purchasing books will help you to classify them. The only exception that should not be overlooked is ex-library.
Once your list is received, I will evaluate the list according to current market prices and return an offer for the entire list as a whole. I do not list individual prices for the books as part of the value is derived from being able to purchase the entire collection. If there are specific books that I do not wish to purchase, I will note that also.
I do not normally place an expiration date on the offers that I extend, but please remember that, being a very small bookseller, my funds for purchasing used books do have a limit and used book prices can fluctuate. If your list is extensive, I may set aside funds for the purchase once the offer is extended. For those reasons, I ask that the offer be accepted or declined within 48 hours of receipt. In addition, should you decide to accept the offer, I ask that the books be shipped to me as soon as possible. Shipping should be through the US Postal Service via Media Mail with delivery confirmation. The address for shipment is:
Paige Todd
The Mad Samplar
1225 Village Drive
Yadkinville, NC 27055-5731
I will email upon receipt of the books to let you know that they arrived safely. Payment for the books plus the actual shipping charges to get the books to me is made within 7 - 10 days of receipt of the shipment by company check.
Please note: I reserve the right to decrease the payment amount or return the shipment if the books are found to be significantly different in terms of condition. You will be contacted if this applies to your shipment.
(Example: I was sent a book list of very good titles and the indication was made that all of the titles were in Very Good to Like New condition. Upon receipt of the package, I was surprised with a box of ex-library books in Fair to Poor condition. After a meeting of the minds, the books were donated so the shipper did not have to pay return shipping charges. My ultimate question? How can ex-library books be considered Like New? Maybe I just haven't seen that in my local bookstore!)
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions with regard to selling your books. I am always happy to help in any way I can to make this transaction as easy as possible for both parties.
