Painted with Thread: The Art of American Embroidery by Paula Bradstreet Richter

The exhibition entitled Painted with Thread: The Art of American Embroidery explores the topic of embroidery as a means of artistic and cultural expression. It displays a broad spectrum of embroidery as art, craft, fine art, folk art, interior decoration, fashion and as a means of communication. Presented in this publication are a selection of approximately one hundred objects from the Peabody Essex Museum's rich holdings in American textiles and embroidery art. The selections were made or used in America from the seventeenth century to the present day.
