Overture and Finale to Linen Embroidery by Ilse Altherr

Ms. Altherr wrote this book as an informative explanation of the many aspects one must consider when contemplating a needlework project. Overture because it comes before the actual embroidery, the preparation of the fabric, of the tools and the choosing of the right type of threads for a particular fabric. Finale because it comes after the embroidery has been completed. A beautiful finishing touch is a must, after so much work, love and care has been invested. Information is provided regarding the type of linen suitable for the different types of embroidery (Assisi, blackwork, Holbein, cross stitch, pulled thread, drawn fabric, drawn thread and Hardanger) as well as suitable threads. Tools for use in stitching are explained. In the Finale section, information is given for checking your embroidery, ironing, blocking and hemming. An excellent resource for the basics!
