Lagartera Embroidery and Stitches from Spain from the South Australian Embroiderers' Guild

In this book, the South Australian Embroiderers' Guild introduces you to the almost forgotten technique of Lagartera embroidery which originates from the Spanish village of the same name. Lagartera is traditionally worked on evenweave linen in satin stitch and double running stitch. Both traditional designs and contemporary developments of these designs have been included, together with exquisite historical embroideries demonstrating the Lagartera technique. Among them are designs for samplers, pin cushions, scissor fobs and borders and edges which may be worked on sheets, pillowcases, bedspreads, clothes and wall hangings, some highlighting the Islamic influence on this colorful peasant embroidery from Spain.
