A note from the author: "This small booklet contains directions for a few useful edgings in Point de Paris and Buckingham Lace. It is intended to teach beginners lace-making from the very beginning and contains all necessary instructions for the novice. Amongst the following patterns there are two, "The Oak" and "The Bantam" which are specially given as having all of the requirements necessary to gain the Girl Guides' Badge for Pillow Lace-making and the easier patterns lead up to them. In fact, the needs of Girl Guides have been largely in my mind in collecting these patterns. My aim has been to provide patterns neither too difficult nor too slow for modern people, but yet of good design and worth doing."
