Four Way Bargello ~ Revised Edition by Dorothy Kaestner

Here is a different and exciting concept of bargello embroidery. Instead of working in parallel lines of zigzags, diamonds and curves, you make kaleidoscope patterns, fanning out from the center in four identical wedges. You may use either very bright colors or subtle monotones and the long bargello stitches can be combined with other canvas stitches - the possibilities are endless and the results are extremely effective. Bargello is a particularly satisfying form of needlepoint as it requires no designs painted on the canvas - which reduces the cost considerably - and it is quick and easy to do. There is such a fascination in watching the pattern develop line by line that it is hard to put down. Anyone who has mastered the fundamental principles of regular bargello can progress to these four way designs and enjoy the challenge that they offer.
