Ancient Persian Designs in Needlepoint by Robert Horace Ross
With their jewel-like colors and gloriously intricate designs, Persian rugs are perhaps the finest expression of the weaver's art. Here are 27 dazzling needlepoint designs evenly distributed among the bold geometrics of the nomadic tribes, the sinuous floral patterns of the Near Eastern city dwellers and the "conventionalized designs" that combine elements of both. Unique to this collection are the "Designer's Companions". Working with a single element in the original carpet, Mr. Ross has created new designs that complement and coordinate with the traditional patterns.
