American Country Cross Stitch by Dorothy Wood
Settlers began to arrive on the shores of North America over two hundred years ago, bringing with them craft skills and traditions from their native countries. As new communities flourished so their design skills developed into the familiar styles that are so popular today. The beauty and simplicity of these designs make them perfect for cross stitch and Dorothy Wood has taken four of the major strands of American folk art, adapting the most striking designs into cross stitch projects. This distinctive and original collection includes work inspired by the Amish and Shaker peoples as well as the more ornate New England tradition; a contemporary section provides modernistic interpretations. There are over 40 charted designs with easy-to-follow making up instructions for pictures, cushions, samplers and a variety of gift ideas.
