This enigmatic and beautiful little book (each page measuring approximately 5 1/2 inches by 4 1/2 inches) was acquired by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in the splendid collection of needlework given by Miss Elizabeth Day McCormick. Each pictorial page is embroidered on parchment in brilliant silks, occasionally embellished with metal threads. The embroidery is completely reversible. This book from Margaret Swain documents and fully describes and explains this wonderful artifact explaining both the manufacture of the original stitched book and the significance of the embroidered scenes which grace each page. This is both a beautiful book and a fascinating read!
